What are the typical benefits associated with a GoalPost™ implementation - how quickly does it "pay back"?

GoalPost™ productivity benefits typically vary from 30 – 50% in the first year and depend on a wide variety of variables such as operation size, labor costs, other supporting initiatives and client commitment to a continuous improvement program.

Qualitative benefits from GoalPost™ include increased morale and accuracy, as well as better asset utilization. Quantitative benefit examples are decreased labor costs and increased unit throughput.

Can my existing WMS interface production data to GoalPost™?

GoalPost™ accepts data in a flat-file format and can therefore receive production data from any packaged or homegrown WMS.  In addition, KSA offers an interface tool that simplifies the interface to any WMS that utilizes an Oracle or SQL database backend.  If your environment does not have a WMS at all, GoalPost™ can also easily accept manual production input, as well as production-related data from other types of systems.

How does pricing for GoalPost™ work?

To ensure that GoalPost™ license pricing is fair and value-based for large and small businesses alike; the pricing is proportional to the value it will provide to your operations. License fees are based on the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) employees that will be tracked by the system, and the number of management users.

What are Engineered Labor Standards?

Engineered Labor Standards (ELS) are developed from time studies which determine the average time it takes to complete each element of a given type of work.

This standard is described in Standard Allowed Minutes (SAMs) and represents the amount of time an associate working at an steady pace and using the correct methods should take to complete the activity.

This standard value vs. the actual time it takes is used to calculate the performance of an individual. This performance can be then rolled up into Operation, Department and Facility performances. Some of the benefits of Engineered Labor Standards:

  • Accurate goals that are sensitive to operational differences between tasks
  • Fair and equitable measure of performance across the entire facility
  • Foundation for effective labor planning and performance reporting

Some clients choose to use the performances calculated based on Engineered Labor Standards to implement an incentive pay program to drive further productivity gains and other benefits.

What if I don't have engineered standards - can I still
use GoalPost™?

Yes you can. In addition to engineered standards, GoalPost™ can accept standards based on reasonable expectations, historical values or “book standards”.

The more customized your standards are to your facility operations, the more performance and throughput benefit you can drive to your labor force, and GoalPost™ supports them all.

What are the cultural implications of implementing a Performance Improvement Program?

The transition from a production based culture to an effective performance based culture can lead to unique challenges and enormous benefits. New roles for Supervisors, Managers and Associates may cause anxiety, optimism and pessimism. Manage this by acknowledging difficulties and encouraging follow-through; by providing a degree of standard transparency you can ease apprehension.

When properly implemented a Performance Improvement Program will positively impact your culture and set the stage for continuing gains in employee loyalty, productivity, and reduction of costs to name a few.

What's the history of GoalPost™?

GoalPost™ is the latest in a long line of products designed specifically to support productivity improvement cultures.  The original system, known as DPACCS, was written in the late 1970s.

Since then, the system has been continuously improved and built out to support the needs of increasingly complex distribution and manufacturing environments.  In the mid-1980s, Control Plus was debuted, followed by CP2 in 2001 and KSA SiteView™ in 2007.

Today's GoalPost™ software incorporates the best of all its predecessors' functionality with leading edge technology.

How can existing Control Plus, CP2 and SiteView customers migrate to the new software?

Current users of KSA’s Control Plus and CP2 applications can upgrade to GoalPost™ without losing existing core data setup, while gaining all of the new features of GoalPost™.

How does GoalPost™ account for associates who are working outside their usual departments?

An employee can work in any Operation in the facility. Time is collected and reported against all of the areas where an employee has worked.

The optional Training Module in GoalPost™ allows you to establish specific training performance goals for Operations. Training allows you to “lower the bar” for Trainees so they begin to earn incentive at a lower performance than Experienced employees.
